Kashmiri Masala Tikki, famously known as Ver in Kashmir, is the ancient heritage spice mix of our valley. It is not an ordinary powdered garam masala. In Kashmiri homes, village mothers and grandmothers prepare Ver before winter sets in by hand-pounding Kashmiri red chillies, mountain garlic, wild shallots (pran), saunf, zeera, cloves, and secret spices in large stone mortars.
The spiced paste is hand-shaped into traditional round cakes with a hole in the center, strung on cords, and sun-dried until hard and preserved. When cooked, Ver releases an intoxicating aroma that instantly brings the authentic taste of Kashmir Wazwan and festive gatherings right into your home.
How to use: You do not need to use much! Just scrape or break a small piece (half teaspoon size) of the cake. Dissolve it in 2 tablespoons of warm water or drop directly into warm mustard oil while making mutton curry, chicken, paneer, rajma, or dum aloo. It gives an unforgettable rich Kashmiri aroma and flavour.
The Century-Old Soul of Wazwan Cooking
No Kashmiri wedding or festival feast is complete without Ver. Made by traditional spice makers using generations-old recipes, it captures the warm, smoky, pungent character of mountain spices preserved in natural cake form.
How to use
Break a small thumbnail-sized piece of the cake. Dissolve in 2 tablespoons of warm water or crumble directly into hot mustard oil/ghee when frying your curry base.
Storage Instructions
Store inside an airtight glass or tin container in a dry place. Stays fresh and intensely aromatic for over 12 months.
