Harvest description & origin details

We source our Akhrot Giri directly from family-owned walnut orchards located in Pahalgam, Kulgam, and Kupwara in Kashmir. In our valley, walnut trees grow naturally in high-altitude cold weather and snow without any chemical fertilizers or artificial sprays. Akhrot Giri is the inner edible kernel taken out after cracking the thin Kagzi outer shell.

Because this is 100% natural farm produce from mountain trees and not manufactured in a factory, every kernel will not have the exact same shape or color. You will find natural whole halves and quarters in the pack, with colors ranging from light golden to natural earthy brown. Both light and slightly darker kernels carry full natural walnut oil and authentic sweet, earthy taste. We hand-sort every batch before vacuum packing at our facility in Wanpora, Kulgam, removing empty bits and shell dust so you receive clean kernels ready to eat.

How to use: You can eat 4 to 5 walnut kernels directly in the morning, or soak them in water overnight and eat with breakfast. Soaking softens the outer skin and makes it easy to digest. Akhrot Giri is also used across Indian homes in traditional recipes like kheer, halwa, dry fruit laddoos, bakery cakes, and Kashmiri walnut chutney made with green chillies and curd.

Storage tips: Always store your walnut kernels in an airtight jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. In warm summer months, we strongly recommend keeping the container inside your refrigerator to protect the natural oils from going bitter and keep them fresh for up to 12 months.

Akhrot from Kashmir

Our Akhrot Giri comes from Pahalgam, Anantnag and Kulgam. Walnut is familiar in Kashmir and is used at home as dry fruit and in different recipes. We sell the edible giri, so the hard outer shell is already removed.

Natural kernels are not all same

Our walnuts comes from a tree, not from a factory. One kernel can be lighter, light golden-brown and some light/snow white. Size and shape also change. You can find full halves and smaller natural pieces in the same pack. This variation is normal for the crop. You will never find any Dark brown or blackish kernels in our pack as the color means old stock, improper drying, or exposure to moisture. If you find one single piece in our pack we will give 100% refund.

How we use it at home

Akhrot Giri can be eaten directly or used in normal home cooking. Chop it for breakfast, cakes or breads, or use it in kheer, halwa and chutney. Use the amount according to your own recipe and taste.

Keeping the giri

Once the pack is open, close it properly or move the kernels to an airtight container. Keep away from heat, moisture, sunlight and strong-smelling foods. For longer keeping after opening, refrigeration is useful.

How to use

Eat 4 to 5 walnut kernels in the morning, or soak them in water overnight. You can also crush them and add to milk, halwa, kheer, oats, or bakery items. They also make a great Kashmiri walnut chutney with our Kashmiri whole dried red chillies (mirchi) — you can buy both together. To make it: soak a few whole dried mirchi in warm water for 15-20 minutes to soften, then grind them with a handful of walnut kernels and a little salt, traditionally in a stone mortar (kanz). If using an electric grinder instead, add just a spoon of curd to help it grind smoothly. Serve fresh with rice, roti, or as a side with any meal.

Storage Instructions

Keep in a clean airtight container in a cool, dry place away from heat. In summer seasons, store in refrigerator to keep natural oils fresh and avoid bitterness.

Questions and Answers

9 answered questions

What color is the walnut giri you deliver?

Our top-grade Kashmiri walnut giri comes in a naturally rich Light Golden to warm Honey Amber shade. We never use sulphur, chemical washes, or artificial bleaches like foreign imported walnuts to force an artificial chalky-white look. This golden color comes purely from traditional harvesting, fresh cracking, and careful sun-drying. The moment you press a piece between your fingers, you will feel the rich, natural Kashmiri oil coat your skin—giving you that signature sweet, buttery crunch with zero bitterness.

Where do these walnuts come from?

We source our walnut kernels from Pahalgam, Anantnag and Kulgam in Kashmir.

What makes Kashmiri walnut kernels different from regular walnuts?

Kashmiri walnuts are grown in the Kashmir Valley, where cold winters and high-altitude soil give the kernels a thinner shell, a lighter golden color, and a richer, less bitter taste compared to walnuts grown in other regions. They also tend to have a higher oil content, which is why they taste creamier and fresher when eaten raw.

Are these walnut kernels raw or roasted?

Our Akhrot Giri are sold raw and unsalted, with no roasting, frying, or added preservatives. This keeps the natural nutrients intact and lets you roast, soak, or cook them however you like at home.

Are these walnuts organic or chemical-free?

We source directly from walnut orchards in Kashmir, and the kernels are manually cracked — , hand-sorted, and packed.

Why are Kashmiri walnuts priced higher than other walnuts?

Kashmiri walnuts are grown in limited quantities compared to commercially farmed varieties, and the harvesting and hand-shelling process is more labor-intensive. The higher oil content and better taste also come from the specific climate and soil of the region, which adds to the cost of production.

Do you deliver walnut kernels across India / internationally?

Yes, we deliver our walnut kernels PAN India. For international delivery, please contact our support team directly — they'll help you with availability, shipping charges, and delivery timelines for your location.

Why do the kernels vary slightly in size and color?

Every tree in a traditional Kashmiri orchard produces naturally unique kernels. We do not use industrial acids or bleaches to make every piece look identical like factory-produced imports. Natural variations from light golden to warm honey amber are living proof that your walnuts are chemical-free, hand-sorted, and straight from the orchard.

Why does delivery take a few days longer than standard e-commerce?

We do not keep pre-packed, months-old stock sitting in hot third-party warehouses. Your kernels are cracked and packed fresh close to the source to preserve their natural oils and crispness. The short transit wait guarantees you receive fresh, living produce rather than stale shelf inventory.
