Harvest description & origin details
Our Kashmiri Mamra Badam kernels are sourced from wild-growing almond trees scattered along the remote, high-altitude slopes of Kupwara and Gurez in Kashmir. Mamra is completely different from commercially cultivated California or standard orchard almonds. These hardy trees grow naturally in rugged mountain terrain with very low yields, surviving freezing Himalayan winters without chemical sprays, drip irrigation, or genetic alteration.
Because Mamra almonds grow wild, the kernels are naturally smaller in size with a distinctive concave, curved shape and textured brownish skin. What makes Kashmiri Mamra world-famous is its extraordinarily high natural oil content (often exceeding 45-50%), making each kernel dense in nutrition, rich in texture, and full of natural sweetness without any flat cardboard taste. We sell Mamra as 100% pure shelled kernels — clean, sorted, and ready to eat with zero shells or processing.
How to use: Mamra kernels are traditionally consumed by soaking 5 to 6 kernels in a small bowl of clean water overnight. In the morning, peel off the loosened skin and chew the kernels thoroughly on an empty stomach, followed by a cup of warm milk. Mamra is also widely valued for making traditional winter recipes like badam halwa, energy laddoos for growing children and nursing mothers, and Kashmiri Kahwa tea.
Storage tips: Because wild Mamra kernels have a very high concentration of natural oils, they must be stored carefully. Keep them in an airtight glass jar or container in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight. In warm climates or summer seasons, always store the container inside your refrigerator to keep the natural oils fresh and prevent rancidity for up to 12 months.
Wild almond from mountain of Kashmir
Mamra Badam we are bringing from high mountain belt of Kashmir, area near Kupwara and Gurez side. This tree is not farmed in orchard like normal almond, it is growing wild in mountain area, so it is different crop altogether.
Why Mamra costs more
Because tree is wild and growing naturally, quantity we get every year is less compare to normal farmed almond. Collecting and cleaning also takes more work. This is main reason Mamra Badam price is higher than Kagzi or Gola badam.
Kernel only, small size, more oil
We sell Mamra Badam as kernel only, shell already removed, so you can eat directly, no cracking needed. Size of kernel is small compare to normal almond, but oil content inside is more, and taste is more rich, little different from normal almond.
How to use
Soak 5 to 6 Mamra kernels in clean water overnight. In the morning, peel the skin and chew thoroughly on an empty stomach with a cup of warm milk.
Storage Instructions
Store in an airtight jar in a cool, dry area, keep away from heat. In summer or hot weather, store in refrigerator to protect high natural oil content.
